80 Hour Transition Course
The 80-hour Transition course was developed to bridge a part-time law enforcement officer who has successfully completed the part-time training program and passed that certification exam into a full time law enforcement position. Any other application of this course is at the discretion of the Director.
To enroll the officer into the 80-Hour Transition course, the employing agency must provide the Training Board with a Form E, Notice of Appointment indicating the hire date the officer has been employed in a full time capacity. The employing agency must also apply for a Full Time Waiver of Training. (The waiver is requesting that the hiring agency not be required to enter the officer into a full academy by seeking an alternative method to meet the full time training requirements). The Board staff will respond to the waiver application by letter notifying the employing agency that the officer must comply by attending the 80-Hour Transition course offering. Board staff will then forward a copy of the letter to the Southwestern Police Academy (SPA) notifying them that the officer must meet the 80- hour training requirement. At that time SPA will add the officer to their list of officers needing the course. Once SPA has met the minimum number of officers needed to provide the course they will notify each employer of the pending class by sending an enrollment packet three weeks prior to the course.
To date the amount of the course is $1095.00.
Any questions regarding tentative dates should be directed to the Southwestern Police Academy.
